# Recommended screens Last updated 2025-02-22 21:49 | | | | ---------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **What shape works best for you?** | The screen should assist your work flow. Three screens, Three different shapes. | **The ergonomics of your current setup can be improved!** Your current screen is not height adjustable. An oversight on my part. The top of your screens are too high due to the desk design. All three options shortlisted below are height adjustable and this greatly improves the ergonomics of your setup. The top to these screens will be lower, despite the greater information content and larger screen size. The conclusion is simple. The balance between a small display and maximum information is difficult due to the physical constraints of the desk (and room). In simple terms, we want the screen as big a possible to a maximum horizontal width of 114 cm. The screen can be taller but not much more than it is now. The screen should show more information (pixels) than the setup you have now which would suggest high resolutions of [[QHD|1440p]], 1660p and 2160p. The discussion is framed by those products that are available. Manufactures design screens in product categories. Within a category the products offered by different manufactures are often similar. The many options are quickly eliminated when we consider the following: - [[16by9 2160p|16:9 2160p]] screens that are available are either rather small or large. The 16:9 format resuts in tall screen. For screen sizes [[40 inch|40 inches]] and above, the screens are too tall to be practical. - [[32by9 1440p|32:9 1440p]] is an attractive option. Many screens are available in this product category. Unfortunately, most are **49 inch** in size which makes them too wide to fit on the desk. - [[21by9 2160p|21:9 2160p]] is a great format but little is offered in this category. One was interesting but with poor contrast. This leaves a shortlist and the best of these are: *Note the prices may vary to that displayed on the manufactures website.* --- ### [[Dell U3824DW]] - 38 inch 16:10 1660p IPS Manufactures website found [here](https://www.dell.com/de-de/shop/geschwungener-dell-ultrasharp-38-usb-c-hub-screen-u3824dw/apd/210-bhxb/screene-und-screenzubeh%C3%B6r) ![[dell lady sitting at desk.png|350]] --- ### [[HP E45c G5 DQHD|HP E45c G5]] - 45 inch 32:9 1440p VA Manufactures website found [here](https://www.hp.com/de-de/shop/product.aspx?id=6n4c1aa&opt=abb&sel=mto) RECOMMENDED ![[hp screen image man at desk.png|350]] --- ### [[Dell S3422DWG]] - 34 inch 16:9 144p VA Manufactures website found [here](https://www.dell.com/de-de/shop/geschwungener-dell-34-gaming-screen-s3422dwg/apd/210-azze/screene-und-screenzubeh%C3%B6r) The screen we own now. ![[dell monitor we own now.png|350]] --- ### Read the full report [[Report - considerations for screen replacement]] ### Figure A: Shortlisted screens - lowest positions compared (height in cm) ![[shortlisted screens lowest positions compared.png]] Keep in mind, that the height of the top of the screen depends on three factors: - Location of screen on shelf or desk - Lowest height of the top of the PC screen - Whether the screen is height adjustable Single screens have a single stand and can be conceivably placed on the desk and the **screen lifted to make room from equipment to be stored underneath**. The audio monitors in this scenario could be placed either side of the screen on the desk. This would eliminate the need for the shelf. #### Example The top of the current screen is 61 cm above the top of the desk on which sits the typing keyboard. This is probably too high. The top of the screen 10 cm lower may be more appropriate (51 cm). With a height adjustable screen you can adjust the height to that which best suites you. All three screens are height adjustable within an acceptable range place on the desk. Even on the shelf, the top of the HP E45c G5 DQHD screen would be 52 cm in the lowest position . - The Dell U3824DW is height adjustable, measured to the top of the screen, from as low as 44.4 cm to a maximum height of 56.4 cm. - The HP E45c G5 DQHD is height adjustable, measured to the top of the screen, from as low as 37.1 cm to a maximum height of 52.1 cm. - Finally, the Dell S3422DWG is height adjustable, measured to the top of the screen, from as low as 44 cm to a maximum height of 54 cm. ### Figure B: Height of the top of screen is dependent use of shelf and height adjustment ![[top of the screen with and without the shelf height adjustment.png]] ### PC screen comparison table I have added your current screen in the far right column. | feature | [[Dell U3824DW]] | [[HP E45c G5 DQHD]] | [[Dell S3422DWG]] | BenQ GW2780 current | | ------------------------------------------ | ---------------------- | -------------------- | -------------------- | -------------------- | | [[tilt]] | -5 to +21 degrees | -5 to +20 degrees | -5 to +21 degrees | -5 to +20 degrees | | [[swivel]] | +-30 degrees | +-10 degrees | none | none | | [[lowest position]] B | 44.4 cm | 37.1 cm | 44 cm measured | 46.3 cm | | [[highest position]] | 56.4 cm | 52.1 cm | 54 cm estimated | 46.3 cm | | [[height adjustment]] C | 12 cm | 15 cm | 10 cm | o cm | | [[housing height]] | 39.2 cm | 33.6 cm | 36.6 cm | 38.1 cm | | [[housing width]] | 89.4 cm | 108.4 cm | 80.9 cm | 61.2 cm | | [[base depth]] | 25.4 cm | 30.7 cm | 23.5 cm | 18.3 cm | | [[Information factor\|information factor]] | [[1.4]] | [[1.8]] | [[1.2]] | 0.5 | | [[Lowest price\|lowest price]] | 1335 € | 929 € | 395 € | 289 € | | [[aspect ratio]] | 21:9 | 32:9 | 21:9 | 16:9 | | [[Native Resolution\|native resolution]] | [[WQHD+\|3840 x 1600]] | [[QHD\|5120 × 1440]] | [[QHD\|3440 x 1440]] | [[FHD\|1920 x 1080]] | | size | [[38 inch]] | [[45 inch]] | [[34 inch]] | [[27 inch]] | | [[curved screen\|curvature]] | [[2300R]] | [[1500R]] | [[1800R]] | flat | | [[Screen Technology\|panel type]] | [[IPS\|IPS Black]] | [[VA]] | [[VA]] | [[IPS]] | | [[refresh rates\|refresh rate]] | [[60 Hz]] | [[165 Hz]] | [[144 Hz]] | [[60 Hz]] | | [[screen luminance\|luminance]] | [[300 nits]] | [[400 nits]] | [[350 nits]] | [[250 nits]] | | [[contrast ratio]] | 2000:1 | 3000:1 | 2725:1 | 1000:1 | | [[pixel density]] | 111 | 119 | 110 | 82 |
